Shouksmith continues tradition of Freemen of the City of York

Members of the seventh generation of York building-services company J. H. Shouksmith & Sons Ltd have been made Freemen of the City at a special ceremony at York’s Guildhall. It is 200 years since Jonas Shouksmith became of Freeman of the City of York in 1806. The latest members of the family are Claire, David and Edward Shouksmith. Becoming a Freeman does not provide any privileges in the city, but once sworn in a Freeman may join the Guild of Freemen, who continue to take an interest in the affairs of York. David is a project manager and Edward is an estimator. Both work for the firm’s operation in Leeds, Morfitts, which provides mechanical and electrical design, installation and maintenance services on commercial and industrial projects throughout the UK.
