MITIE makes a game of business in Surrey schools

Led by Adam Strudwick of MITIE Engineering, this team from Guildford County School won the future-town game, an initiative with Surrey Education Business partnership in schools across Surrey.

MITIE has teamed up with Surrey Education Business Partnership to visit schools across Surrey taking part in games designed to give pupils business, planning and negotiating experience. The future-town game is a one-day activity designed to encourage pupils’ innovative and creative thought as they design their perfect town of the future. The activity delivers the citizenship agenda while providing opportunity for pupils to practise key skills. Teams develop a particular theme, including housing, education, transport, working life, shopping, finance, energy, waste, sport, recreation and leisure. The game encourages students to think creatively about what towns will be like in 25 to 30 years time, develop ideas and present them to the judges and the rest of the school. The objective is to give pupils the opportunity to develop and practise the key skills of teamwork, problem solving and presentation. It also provides pupils with the chance to experience a different way of learning. Adam Strudwick, design director from MITIE Engineering, took charge of a 25-strong team for the recent future-town game at Guildford County School. The team’s focus on energy and waste clearly hit a note in today’s sustainable-savvy society and saw them winning the game.’
