Toshiba air conditioners exceed A rating of Energy Labelling Scheme

The energy-efficiency performance of an inverter-controlled R410A heat-pump split air-conditioning system for larger commercial applications exceeds the A rating of the new Energy Labelling Scheme for air-conditioning equipment. The Toshiba Super Digital Inverter range has also been included on the Energy Technology List, so that it qualifies for Enhanced Capital Allowances. Cooling capacities are from 2.2 to 14 kW with heating from 2.2 to 16.5 kW. The performance of this system enables it to operate from a single-phase power supply in situations where long pipe runs are unavoidable. Energy-efficiency ratios of 4.17 and coefficients of performance of 4.67 are achievable at Eurovent measured standards. Even greater efficiencies are achieved at the low operating speeds typical in the UK. For example, over 12 months under installed conditions, the 5.6 kW model is said to achieve a 75% improvement in running costs comparable with a comparable fixed-speed R407C system. Other features include the vector-controlled intelligent power drive unit used in Toshiba’s VRF SMSS range. This drive unit enables the SDI to support either heating or cooling with outdoor temperatures as low as -15°C. SDI units can work with piping lengths that are up to 66% longer than industry-standard products.
