CIBSE awards will acclaim low-carbon performance

Low-carbon professionals, buildings and projects are to be rewarded at a new event organised by the Chartered Institution of Building Services. It will focus on real, measurable improvements and progress, rather than on problems and possible solutions. The event will also publicise these achievements to the building-services sector, to its clients and to the wider public. The Low Carbon Performance Awards will be presented at CIBSE’s annual dinner in London on 6 February 2008. CIBSE has already had success with two major initiatives that are helping to tackle the issue of sustainability — the Low Carbon Consultants register and the 100 Days of Carbon Clean Up campaign. Innovation and inspiration are a key theme with the ‘Innovation of the year’ category seeking to identify design or technical solutions, new technologies, new processes or other innovations that have significantly reduced or assisted the reduction of carbon emissions in buildings which are capable of wider application. Other categories include ‘New build project of the year’, ‘Refurbishment project of the year’, which will stress the potential of refurbishment to become a green opportunity and ‘Client of the year’ to recognise the valuable input of clients who actively participate in projects. The event will also celebrate the achievements of the current 100 Days of Carbon Clean-up campaign. Over 670 organisations signed up to the campaign, and participants have made a real contribution to reducing the amount of carbon emitted from the workplace.
