Toshiba shows its air-conditioning qualifications at University of Manchester
The new Alan Turing Building at the University of Manchester will have its air-conditioning requirements met by Toshiba systems.
A range of air-conditioning systems from Toshiba Air Conditioning satisfy the special requirements of two new developments at the University of Manchester. They are the new, large Alan Turing Building and the refurbished Schuster Building, which house the School of Physics & Astronomy and the School of Mathematics. The computer cluster and study areas in the 4-storey Alan Turing Building all require air conditioning. This is provided by eight heat-recovery R410A VRF systems serving over 80 ducted indoor units. The cooling/heating capacity is 380/357 kW. In addition, a small server room is constantly cooled by a pair of digital inverter split systems to keep the temperature within 1.5 K of the setpoint. In the refurbished Schuster building, the air-conditioning systems manage heat gain from computer equipment. Server suites, IT rooms, computer clusters and other laboratories and similar facilities use a combination of 2-pipe heat-pump VRF and 40 Toshiba R410A digital inverter heat-pump spit systems to keep temperatures constant all year round. The air-conditioning contractor was Toshiba-accredited installer Delta Environmental. Emcor was mechanical-services contractor and Jacobs Engineering the consulting engineer.
