Toshiba’s latest VRF system achieves higher performance levels

VRF units
Larger air-conditioning systems with longer pipe runs and improved energy-efficient operation are offered by the Toshiba Super Modular Multi System.
Toshiba Air Conditioning has launched an R410A version of its Modular Multi VRF systems. An energy-efficiency ratio of 3.8 is possible with the Super Modular Multi System, which is said to offer the smallest footprint of comparable systems and the greatest design layout flexibility. Every compressors in this VRF system is inverter-controlled. The control system can run compressors in different units at the same time to reduce starting currents and even out wear. Likewise, fans can be run on more than one unit without starting the compressors to improve heat-transfer efficiency and reduce noise. The result is that a 10 hp SMMS is said to be 15% more efficient than any other comparable system on the market. The range has five models of heat-pump outdoor units with capacities from 14 to 134.4 kW and heating from 16 to 150 kW. There are nine types of indoor unit as 84 different units. The 150 m separation that can be achieved between indoor and outdoor units and the 50 m lift enables the system to be used in large buildings. Also, because the system is modular and several systems can serve one building, large buildings can be served with this type of air conditioning. Pulse-width modulation and pulse-amplitude modulation enable optimum compressor operation at all times, rather than starting and stopping them to match demand. Toshiba’s patented vector-controlled intelligent power drive unit (IPDU) boosts power efficiency by 15% across the whole range of compressor speeds. The IPDU also controls the start up of the compressors in a system. general.enquiries@toshiba-ac.com
