SAV meters keep energy score at Highbury residential redevelopment

SAV Danfoss
Over 700 apartments in the residential redevelopment of the former Highbury football stadium have heating and hot water provided by SAV Danfoss substations served by central boiler plant

The benefits of centralised plant with individual heating and hot-water systems and wireless reporting of energy consumption are provided for each apartment of the Highbury residential development by heating and hot-water substations from SAV Danfoss.

Highbury was the home of Arsenal Football Club from just before the First World War to 2006 and is being redeveloped to create over 700 apartments in four 7-storey glass-fronted blocks. The former pitch is being transformed into a new garden.

The substations in each apartment are configured to the specific requirements. Indirect versions have a second heat-exchange module to act as an interface between the main hot-water supply form the boiler and the circuit in the apartment.

When a hot-water tap is opened, the variation in pressure causes hot water to be provided instantly. Energy is also diverted via the heat exchanger from the underfloor heating circuits to the hot-water supply, reverting when demand ceases.

Every unit supplied by SAV for this project has a built-in energy meter to enable data collection using a hand-held Bluetooth receiver.

The substations were installed by NG Bailey. Building-services consultants are Crofton Design and Hoare Lea & Partners.
