BDP specifies HCP trench heating for its recently completed Manchester office
HCP has supplied 600 m of trench heating for the recently completed office of BDP in Manchester. This 3000 m2 6-storey office includes a large open-plan studio space and an interactive area on the ground floor which includes a cafe, staff restaurant and extensive reception area.
The trench heating runs around the perimeter of the building. The project required the trench heating to sit on a special ‘top-hat’ shaped bracket to bridge the cleats for the curtain-wall cladding and the pipes used to harvest rainwater. Three different ‘top-hat’ brackets were used, two of which also integrated cable trays.
Trench heating combats the cold down draughts often found with full-height and half-height glazing and provides an effective heat source where wall space is limited.
BDP’s new building is believed to be the first naturally ventilated office building in Manchester to achieve an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating.
