Weatherite desk-cooling system handles high IT heat loads

Energy-efficient cooling for high IT loads in this office of City Index is provided by a desk-cooling solution installed by Weatherite Building Services.

A desk-cooling system installed by Weatherite Building Services is providing an energy-efficient cooing system for City Index to cope with the high levels of heat generated by high-density IT hardware. Weatherite designed a solution based around a ‘dual-cool’ desk system developed by sister company Weatherite Manufacturing and IT desk manufacturer SBFI.

A total of 27 twin ‘dual-cool’ desk coolers were linked to a high-efficiency cooling system that distributed chilled water to the desk coolers from the building’s primary chilled-water system via a heat exchanger and secondary chilled-water pump module.

The system is installed under the floor and the chilled water is at sufficiently high a temperature to avoid condensation when transported by uninsulated ABS pipe. Flexible Polymet pipe connects to individual desk coolers from six header manifold boxes containing distribution, regulating and commissioning valve sets.

Weatherite provided a complete turnkey solution at City Index, designing and supplying the specialist equipment, plus installing and commissioning the system on behalf of the client.
