World Cup stadiums choose Daikin VRV air conditioning
The flexible control and operation of large Daikin VRV air-conditioning systems is being put to good effect in the Green Point Stadium in Cape Town and the newly constructed Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, both in South Africa. Both stadiums will house matches in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in June 2010.
Daikin water-cooled VRV air conditioners have been delivered to the Green Point Stadium, now being built. The conventional method for air conditioning such stadiums is to house large chillers in a machine room. However, because this stadium is a multi-purpose facility with a layout that can change dramatically from event to event, VRV was chosen for its ability to control air conditioning in each area and conserve energy. There will be 63 outdoor units and 113 indoor units.
Since presenting the energy-saving concept to the Green Point Stadium, Daikin Airconditioning South Africa has convinced the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium to adopt the same solution. This project will comprise 107 outdoor units and 238 indoor units.
