Great progress on low-carbon heating at Pilgrims Housing
Low-carbon low-cost heating is provided for a new development of affordable housing in Great Billing, Northants, by air-source heat pumps from Mitsubishi Electric. The seven 3-storey terraced houses were built for a housing association and use 5 kW Ecodan units linked to a 150 l cylinder to serve underfloor heating on the ground floor and convector radiators on the first and second floors.
The houses, built for Bedfordshire Pilgrims Housing Association, have already achieved Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. Early signs show that very little energy is being used to keep the properties warm and comfortable, and with a constant supply of hot water.
Duncan Brebner of Life Space Developments, which built the homes, says, ‘I was really impressed with the simplicity and effectiveness of such a small and quiet system, and we have also saved the time and cost of having to run gas to the estate.’
