Monodraught Sunpipes are integrated with artificial lighting in single fittings in this Waitrose store.

Monodraught has worked with supermarket chain Waitrose to develop a retail lighting fitting with a Sunpipe integrated into an artificial lighting fitting. The Composite Sunpipe Assembly (CSA) is designed to maximise the use of daylight while controlling it and balancing it with artificial light. The success of the installation in customer toilets and office areas in the Altrincham store has prompted plans to extend the concept to other spaces in branch interiors.

Lighting company Luxo became involved at the early stages of the development to integrate a Sunpipe and a luminaire. The Luxo luminaires are standard T5 fluorescent office fittings, which were redesigned to accommodate a Sunpipe and linked to a simple light sensor to control light output according to daylight availability.
