Oventrop is top of the class in new academy building

Sandwell’s new Q3 Academy (to left of photo) uses Oventrop valves exclusively for heating and hot-water services.

To simplify purchasing and facilitate subsequent servicing, Oventrop valves were selected exclusively by Interserve Engineering Services for heating services in the £30 million Q3 Academy at Sandwell in the West Midlands. Included in the selection were 150 AV6 TRVs and matching Combi 4 lockshield valves.

The new 3-storey building replaces former buildings which suffered a serious fire in 2003. In due course, the old buildings will be demolished and transformed into a multi-use games area and an outdoor theatre.

The heating system is a design-and-build project based on an outline specification by consulting engineers Giffords. It is served by a ground-floor plant room housing three gas-fired condensing boilers. All boiler and ancillary valves were supplied by Oventrop, as well as commissioning sets, double regulating, isolation valves and strainers used throughout the PPHW and DHW systems.

Each of the 70 rooms has two radiators fitted with AV6 TRVs. These valves have a presettable insert that permits adjustment of water flow rates to suit heat demand. Open areas have underfloor heating, Hydrocontrol double-regulating and commissioning valves are strategically located around the system, with ball and butterfly valves for isolation.
