Off-site thinking helps protect Liverpool’s historic library

SES, prefabrication, off site manufacture

To help protect the Grade 2 listed Liverpool Central Library during its refurbishment, SES is to manufacture a significant part of the equipment for the M&E contract off site. The M&E contract is worth £8 million, and SES will produce over 60% of its components off site.

Steve Wallwork, operations director for SES, explains, ‘Most of the new library’s plantroom and M&E services will be built using our off-site facility SES Prism, before we even set foot on site. All the components will be transported to the library and lifted safely into place. This will avert any risk to the structure of the old building and the workforce on site, while also dramatically reducing our carbon footprint compared to traditional M&E installation methods.

Work starts on site in December 2010 and is due for completion by the end of 2012.
