Electricity supplier and heating company work on new developments
Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE) has entered into a strategic agreement with Dimplex to develop and deploy products that can support the decarbonisation of electrical heating. SSE is a leading generator of electricity from renewable sources and has over five million customers for electricity.
The two companies plan to develop systems for storing energy from the electricity grid in, for example, thermal-storage heating devices or water-heating devices and to work together on investing in, developing and manufacturing new heating products using new technologies.
They expect to develop systems and products such as heat pumps to maximise the use of zero-carbon electricity as it becomes available from wind power and solar PV and have the ability to store it for periods of peal demand.
Ian Marchant, chief executive of SSE, said, ‘Electricity will play a major part in meeting demand for neat over the next few decades. By combining technologies and systems, I believe our partnership with Dimplex will mark a major step forward towards the era of “smart heat”.’
