Timoleon, underfloor heating
Underfloor heating for the sprung floor of this school sports hall is supplied by using a system based on Timoleon’s Aether Foilboard.

De La Salle College in Jersey has benefited from Timoleon’s ability to tailor underfloor heating systems to meet specific requirements in a cost-efficient manner. Two different techniques have been used for the new 480 m2 sports hall and the changing rooms beneath for this independent Roman Catholic school of 840 boys aged from 4 to 18.

Underfloor heating offers an ideal means of heating the sports hall, which is 7 m high to the apex of the pitched roof. The sprung floor uses New Era, a quick and easy floor-levelling system designed to simplify the installation of Junckers flooring over subfloors with uneven or varying heights.

Requirements for a compatible underfloor heating system included no joints beneath the floor, perfect integration with the required batten spacing and allowing the floor to move freely while the pipework remained in contact with the underside of the floor to maintain high heating efficiency.

Timoleon’s Aether FoilBoard was selected with a double-pipe channel to integrate with the acoustic sprung battens at 411 mm centres.

The changing rooms below are also served by a Timoleon system, with a pipe-and-staple technique with insulation and pipework integrated into the floor by a sand and cement top screed.

Heat is supplied by three Mitsubishi Electric Ecodan air-source heat pumps.
