The £700 000 services contract to fit out the 2600 m2 2-storey headquarters of Severn Trent Water in Shelton near Shrewsbury has been awarded to J. S. Wright. Completion is scheduled for September, and the brief is to design, provide and install energy-efficient low-velocity ventilation, low-pressure-hot-water trench heating and an automated controls package. The contract was awarded by BAM Services.

To complement the natural-ventilation system, the company will lay underground ductwork to regulate heat or coolth coming form the ground in line with outside temperature before passing the air through a heat-recovery system.

Other work includes a water-reclamation system incorporating a rainwater storage tank and a borehole for flushing toilets, domestic water services and above-ground drainage for the development.

Marcus Aniol, managing director of J. S. Wright, said, ‘This development will provide a cutting-edge example of how we can minimise the impact of a building’s services on the environment as well as enable its occupied to participate in saving energy.’
