NG Bailey signs up to halve waste sent to landfill

NG Bailey has signed up to the Waste & Resources Action Programme to halve the waste it sends to landfill by 2010. The construction industry is responsible for nearly a third of all waste in the UK.

Recent measures to prevent the generation of waste material has already saved the company over £245 000. They include the setting up of a logistics centre in the north west of England providing a purpose-built material storage facility close to many project sites that allows the required volumes of products to be delivered ‘just in time’ and avoid the problem of materials being damaged on site.

A site waste policy has been put in place to categorise waste products, offering clearer definitions of re-usable and recyclable material for staff.

Sustainability director Cal Bailey says, ‘I am confident that we can achieve all that we have committed to. As one of the first M&E contractors to sign up to this campaign, we are leading the way in our field.’
