It covers batten, tubular, vandal-resistant, industrial, surface, recessed, special, emergency and a new range of LED luminaires — all from high-tech plastics.

BSRIA’s guide on embodied carbon presents 1800 records of embodied carbon for 35 classes of material in a way that can be readily used in calculations. This inventory has been collated from independent sources and open literature and rigorously analysed to give users confidence in the reliability of the values.

Hitachi Air Conditioning has added a compact single-fan unit to its Yutaki range of air-source heat pumps. They are only 800 mm high and can deliver hot water at up to 60°C. Outputs range from 5 to 17 kW.

Fujitsu, Eurofred, air conditioning

A new compact cassette for use with Fujitsu’s popular range of outdoor units for multi-split air-conditioning systems has nominal capacities of 2.7 kW for cooling and 3.3 kW for heating. It weighs just 15 kg and is 570 mm square and 245 mm deep, excluding grille. The AUYF09LAL ceiling cassette is available from FG Eurofred.

IDS Climalife has introduced an environmentally friendly heat-transfer fluid for heating, renewable-energy and refrigeration applications as an alternative to mono propylene glycol. Greenway is produced from a renewable vegetable resource, and its manufacturing process is said to produce 40% lower CO2 emissions and use 40% less energy. It includes organic long-lasting corrosion inhibitors.

Legrand, Salamandre, electrical, cable trunking

Legrand’s latest range of Salamandre trunking is 50% quicker to install than its predecessor, according to independent tests — considerably reducing its total installed cost. It was designed following consultations with specifiers, installers and engineers that highlighted a desire for a solution that was faster and easier to install, had fewer components, less time on site and improved health and safety.

Cooper Controls, lighting, iLight, Kensington

The Kensington range of lighting control plates from iLight by Cooper Controls combines high-level functionality with stylish design. These discreet units have a low-profile design that stands just 4 mm off the wall. All plates fit a 35 mm-deep UK single-gang back box and have a screwless fixing, so they can be retrofitted to existing installations.

Estimation, estimating software, Luckins, LuckinsLive

Estimation 2011 software for contractors has a host of new features and functionality to help reduce costs and save time on routine tasks in key areas of a user’s business — including winning work, running contracts, managing finances and service and maintenance operations.
