Ground source heat pumps deliver heating, cooling and DHW
Following successful trials, Soleco has launched a range of MCS-certified open-loop ground-source heat pumps to offer year-round heating, cooling and hot water. One of its commercial installations has secured funding under the Renewable Heat Incentive. Designed and made in the UK, there are six models in the range with COPs from 3.95 to 4.28, at MCS conditions.
These ground-source heat pumps extract heat from ground water at a temperature of around 12°C via a borehole and transfer it to a building’s heating system via water at up to 55°C.
All systems in the range are compatible with underfloor heating systems, as well as modern and low-temperature radiators. The constant temperature of underground water, combined with a highly efficient design, means that no backup heating is normally required.
An independent DHW circuit provides hot water on demand at 65°C and operates at the same time as the heating circuit.
Cooling can be achieved using the same borehole with an additional ventilation system or wall-mounted fan-coil unit.
These ground-source heat pumps are available through an approved network of installers which are MCS accredited and qualify purchasers for the RHI. Approved installers manage the whole installation — from arranging hydro-geological reports, sinking the borehole, to the final system installation.
