Vacancies for senior positions in construction industry treble

Unadvertised vacancies for senior executives in the construction industry almost trebled from 2012 to 2013, according to figures compiled by InterExec, which acts as a confidential agent for senior executives earning £150 000 to £1 million-plus. That increase for the period July/August dwarfs an overall 14% increase across all sectors.

Recruitment of senior executives usually precedes the recruitment of more-junior positions, so the figures are seen as indicating a substantial increased in broader recruitment over the next six months.

Kit Scott-Brown of InterExec says, ‘The senior market started to grow last summer and it is the ensuing staff recruitment that we are starting to see now, but the barometer of notifications really shot up in the first half of 2013 with a 40% growth of senior unadvertised vacancies and has now continued with a further 14% growth over July and August — a really strong pointer to employment growth in the New Year.’
