BG Energy Solutions restores BMS to health at golf and spa hotel

Back in control — the BMS at this hotel following an overhaul by BG Energy Solutions.

So effective was the overhaul of the dysfunctional BMS in the boiler house of the Hellidon Lakes Golf & Spa Hotel near Daventry that the energy savings it made possible took the hotel to the top of the league for energy savings by QHotel’s collection of 21 hotels in the UK. The project restored control over heating and air conditioning — and introduced new energy efficiencies.

Steve Inwood, the recently appointed maintenance manager at the hotel, explains, ‘We had a problem with the controls in our boiler house, to the extent that heating in some parts of the hotel was not working. When I arrived, the Trend BMS wasn’t operational, which meant that we were using manual on/off valves, which wasn’t the most convenient way of working.’

When he sought quotes for the task of getting the BMS up and running again, he received a very positive response from BG Energy Solutions. BG spent three days on site updating the BMS, which controls heating and air conditioning in the main conference room bar and lounge, golf changing rooms and reception.

Steve Inwood said, ‘BG Energy Solutions had to start at the BMS end of the system with the PC board and control panel, which feed various valves and actuators. One actuator had to be replaced. They also had to check the whole system via point-to-point commissioning. The project was like a re-install.

‘The system is user friendly and offers so much more control now.’
