Engine shed replaces its radiant-heating system

AmbiRad, Nor-Ray-Vac, space heating, radiant heating

The Nor-Ray-Vac radiant heating system in this locomotive shed of Belmond British Pullman at the Stewarts Lane railway depot in Battersea has been replaced after 28 years. Belmond British Pullman approached Multigas to replace the system and also install heating in two other areas that were previously unheated.

AmbiRad, which makes the Nor-Ray-Vac system, replaced the old system with the latest version, which is expected to last well into the 2030s.

Blanket heat coverage was not necessary, as only the areas where people are working need to be heated. When operatives are working on one part of the train, zoning enables other parts of the radiant heating system to be turned off to save energy.

The shed has doors at each end, a situation that radiant heating is well able to cope with.
