Spirotech specified for major biomass district-heating scheme
One of the largest biomass projects in the UK, Blackburn Meadows Biomass Plant, includes Spirotech’s Top Control pressurisation system and three 10 000 l expansion vessels in its main plantroom. Spirotech products have also been installed to protect the system from contamination by dirt and magnetite.
This plant uses locally sourced recycled waste wood to generate 30 MW of electricity to power around 40 000 homes and serve a low-carbon district-heating network supplying heat directly to homes and businesses in the area.
The district-heating pipe network will extend some 8 km when completed. It will supply landmark buildings such as the Motorpoint Arena, Ice Sheffield, Forgemasters and the English Institute of Sport.
The plant is the third in E.ON UK’s generation portfolio and the largest project that Spirotech has worked on with E.ON so far.
