Robur chillers respond to electricity shortage
50 Robur gas-powered chilled have been installed to provide comfort cooling to Embassy Gardens, the multi-functional luxury building at Nine Elms in London. The site comprises thousands of luxury homes, workspaces and amenities — as well as the refurbishment of Battersea Power Station, New Covent Garden Marker and the US Embassy.
Over a megawatt of cooling was required for Phase 1 of the residential build. The chillers were chosen because of the shortage of electrical power and the cost of providing the necessary power. They were supplied by ESS.
These absorption chillers are mounted in factory-assembled skids, each providing 90 kW of cooling but requiring just a 30 A single-phase power supply. Integrated controls automatically cascade the chiller modules and share the load evenly. In the event of a mechanical failure or service downtime, less than 7% of output is lost.
The natural refrigerant is in a factory-sealed circuit and not subject to the F Gas regulation.
