REL Electrical installs services for energy-efficient leisure centre

REL Electrical

REL Electrical has completed a £2.5 million design-and-build mechanical-services package at Waltham Forest Leisure Centre. This £25 million facility is one of the largest health and sports centres in London. It comprises a 25 m swimming pool, learner pool, spa, gym and fitness studio. There is also an extreme-sports area that includes a climbing wall, skateboard and BMX areas. Main contractor was ISG.

Work carried out by REL included installing ventilation systems and air conditioning and associated mechanical services for the centre’s swimming facilities — such as installing all pool ventilation plant and associated ductwork.

A 40% reduction in CO2 compared with current Building Regulations was the target for the project, so REL’s brief also included sourcing and installing a CHP system as well as extensive solarPV on the roof.
