Nordair/Niche puts ‘zoom zoom’ into Mazda showroom

A former engineering factory in Watford has been transformed into what is believed to be the largest Mazda showroom in Europe. The 2500 m2 showroom is heated by two Nordair/Niche MUA 75 VAV direct-fired warm-air heaters positioned externally. Heated air is delivered into the large interior spaces through a single drum louvre at high level. In the workshop, a TTW150 warm-air unit provides background heating. Robert McNamara of Gasforce, which specified these heaters, explains, ‘The client needed even heat coverage for the premises, delivered by a system that could also overcome the challenges of quick warm-up and recovery when doors open to allow cars in and out. The objective was to heat these large spaces efficiently and cost effectively with minimal appliances.’ The direct-fired heaters have a net thermal efficiency of 100% and quickly warm the showroom to 18 to 20°C and the workshop to a lightly lower temperature. Despite the high ceilings, even heat coverage without stratification is achieved. The heaters produce a slight positive pressure that drives warm air into all parts of the space.
