New warm-air heating increases versatility of school sports hall
The quiet and effective delivery of warm-air heating through the perforated PVC duct running the length of this school sports hall enables it to be used for examinations and public functions.
To enable the sports hall at Marymount International School in Kingston upon Thames to be used for examinations and large social functions, as well as sport, warm-air heating with the warm air distributed through a perforated PVC duct has been installed. The single-leg duct runs the length of the interior, about 30 m. Warm air is forced out of tiny perforations along the duct so that it immediately mixes with room air, eliminating temperature stratification. This approach to delivering warm air is also very quiet, so that the hall can be used for examinations as well as other functions. Marymount School is a girls’ private day and boarding school offering the International Baccalaureate Middle Years and Diploma Programmes for 11 to 18-year olds. Some 50 different nationalities are represented. The sports hall was previously heated by a ducted air system. Working with R. A. Green Mechanical Services of Crowborough, Reznor supplied an LPG RPVE unit heater, linked to the PVC Air Mixing duct. The RPVE unit was mounted externally on a specially designed steel frame at mezzanine level on the end of the building. LPG is supplied from an underground gas vessel close to the building and landscaped to disguise its appearance. The heater has motorised dampers to allow full fresh air when ventilation is required or up to 90% recirculated air when economy is a priority.
