New boilers at a swimming pool in Newcastle are expected to cut fuel costs by 30%.
Energy costs for pool and space heating at the public swimming baths in Newcastle could be cut by 30% following the replacement of 25-year-old boiler plant with new plant from Ideal Boilers. The replacement of the boilers at Elswick Park & Pool cost £65 000. The old conventional plant has been replaced with four high-efficiency Harrier GTE commercial boilers. They fitted the existing pipe and flue framework, minimising the time the pool was closed and minimising installation costs. Tim Muter, mechanical design engineer with Newcastle City Council says, ‘New legislation introduced over the last few years mean it is vitally important that councils look at ways of driving up the efficiency of their building stock. The heating system at Elswick Park & Pool was very old, so huge amounts of fuel were being wasted to heat the centre and its pool.’
