Insulating plastic pipes

Despite suggestions to the contrary, Kingspan maintains that insulation thickness for plastic pipes cannot be reduced compared with steel.
Insulating plastic pipes To address uncertainty about the need to insulate plastic pipes, Kingspan Insulation has published a 4-page brochure ‘Insulation and plastic pipes’. It concludes unequivocally that reducing the thickness of insulation or even using none at all is not an option if current Building Regulations and British Standards are to be met. Analysis of heat loss for hot pipes at 60°C and heat gain for chilled-water supplies at 0°C show negligible difference in the thickness of Kingspan’s Kooltherm rigid phenolic pipe insulation for steel and plastic pipes to meet the requirements of BS 5422:2001 literature@ukinsulation.kingspan.com
