Heating the way to a greener future

Underfloor heating served by a ground-source heat pump is being installed in this museum in County Durham by Encompass.
Encompass has won the contract to supply ground-source heat pumps and an underfloor heating system for the 1913 Lamp Cabin at Beamish Museum in County Durham. It will provide a base for the museum’s collection of miners’ lamps and other mining artefacts, many of which have not been on display to visitors before. The installation will serve 178 m2 of underfloor heating served by a NIBE 8 kW single-phase ground-source heat pump linked to two collector loops in the ground, each 200 m long. The temperature will be controlled by tamper-proof thermostats in the exhibition space. The project is part of the development of The Colliery Village and has received funding from HLF, ERDF, County Durham Economic Partnership, ONE NorthEast, DCMS and The Banks Community Fund.
