Hamworthy meets conservation needs for London nursery

Hamworthy
A plant room resembling a green house was built to accommodate these Hamworthy boilers at West Ham Park in London.
Three Hamworthy Purewell VariHeat 180 condensing boilers in an unusual new greenhouse plant room help West Ham Park produce over 280 000 bedding plants a year for the 77 acre park and various gardens, churchyards and other open spaces in the City of London. There are eight greenhouses across five acres that require close heating control to maintain a constant temperature for optimum growing conditions. The boilers were installed by Hamworthy’s service partner Maracom. Keith Hamman, projects operations manager for Maracom, explains, ‘The park is Grade 2 listed on the English Heritage register of parks and gardens of specific historic interest in England. It is also a conservation area, which is why the greenhouse style was chosen. The park is owned and maintained by the City of London Corporation.’ Footprint and performance were important for the boiler choice, and the Purewell VariHeat was deemed the best choice for the installation in both cases. The whole system is controlled by a BMS. Maracom also installed a Hamworthy pressurisation unit, Biral system pump and a sealed-system expansion vessel.
