Daikin provides energy-efficient environment for Pets at Home
As part of the expansion of offices and upgrading the internal environmental services of Pets at Home, Daikin VRVIII heat-recovery and VAM heat-reclaim systems have been installed. Calder Building Services of Halifax designed and installed this total solution.
Pets at Home was established in Chester in 1991 to offer customers ‘the ultimate in pet shop experience’ and has grown into the largest welfare body for domestic pets and small animals in the country. The company is involved with charities that find new homes for pets and supports and co-ordinates over 220 pet stores from this office in Handforth, Cheshire.
The 2-storey office building has reception, food testing area, meeting rooms, gymnasium and general marketing and ancillary office accommodation on the ground floor. On the first floor are the directors’ suite and offices for project manager, maintenance manager and IT staff.
The building is divided into three environmental zones, each served by dedicated VRV heat-recovery modules. Conditioned air is supplied by 36 Roundflow ceiling cassettes with cooling capacities from 3.6 to 9.0 kW and heating from 4.0 to 10.0 kW.
An important feature of the solution devised by Calder Building Services is heat-reclaim ventilation using six VAM units to recover both sensible and latent heat from exhaust air.
Overall control of air conditioning and heat reclaim is provided by a Daikin intelligent controller in the maintenance manager’s office. There are also wired room controllers throughout the building.
