Survey shows high level of WEEE awareness

Nearly a quarter (23%) of smaller electrical contractors in Greater London are unaware of the WEEE (Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment) Regulations, according to research from Recolight, the WEEE compliance scheme for gas discharge lamps. Scotland is close behind, with 17% of smaller electrical contractors unaware of the WEEE Regulations.

In contrast, 100% of electrical contractors surveyed in the East Midlands/East Anglia are aware of the regulations, as are 99% in the west/south west and 98% in Wales.

Overall, 94% of electrical contractors are aware of the regulations, and 95% feel confident that they know what their obligations are under them.

Peter Lees, commercial manager of Recolight, says, ‘It’s been two years since the WEEE Regulations were implemented, and the research results are generally positive. Although the results indicate there is a regional variation in awareness levels, they also show a good overall level of awareness of the regulations amongst smaller electrical contractors and their obligations under them.’
