BG Controls helps business centre benefit from natural ventilation

Contributing to the green credentials of this business centre in Rotherham is a natural-ventilation system designed, made and installed by BG Controls.

BG Controls has helped the new Fusion@Magna Business Centre to utilise natural energy by installing an intelligent ventilation system. The 2500 m2 development on the former site of the Templeborough Rolling Mill steel works in Rotherham cost £4.5 million and provides 18 workshops and 29 offices for start-up businesses.

The building has achieved a BREEAM ‘Very good’ rating. Its green technologies include protective green foliage around external walls to reduce internal solar gains, sedum roof to the workshops and natural ventilation.

BG Controls designed, made and installed the natural-ventilation solution using BACnet open-protocol technology and using sensors for internal temperature and CO2 levels. The combination of ‘living walls’ and controlled natural ventilation has eliminated the need for air conditioning.
