SkillPipe competition embraces plastics

Skill Pipe, plastic pipework
Reflecting the wide use of plastics pipework is the inclusion of a plastics module in this year’s SkillPipe competition.

Durapipe UK has achieved a breakthrough in its education and training initiative with the inclusion of a plastics module within the requirements of the SkillPipe competition. This competition is organised by SummitSkills and sees young apprentices tested across a series of challenging pipe-fitting modules. It began in 2009, and this year’s competition in June included a module on plastics pipework installations using Durapipe’s Friatherm system.

The same module was completed last year using steel pipework, but Durapipe and SummitSkills were keen for competitors to be able to demonstrate knowledge and installation skills using a variety of materials.

Neil Collishaw of SummitSkills said, ‘It is great for a company like Durapipe to be as passionate about training and education as we are. The addition of the Friatherm module is a great asset to the competition as apprentices with a wider knowledge of materials can only be positive for the building-services industry as a whole.
