New PFI prison reaches financial close

The first prison to be procured under the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) for several years has reached financial close, with Faithful+Gould providing project-management services to the Ministry of Justice National Offender Management. The £415 million Belmarsh West PFI New Prison in south London will be operated by Serco and designed and built under a £100 million construction contract by its construction partner Skanska. The new prison, built to category B standard, is designed to achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.
