Vacon HVAC drives are selected for the Shard

Vacon, HVAC drives, Shard
Over 200 variable-speed drives are being supplied by Vacon for HVAC systems in the Shard at London Bridge.

Variable-speed drives supplied by Vacon UK are to be used extensively in the HVAC system of the Shard at London Bridge. Scheduled to be completed by May 2012, it will be the tallest building in the European Union. The HVCA installation is already planned to incorporate over 219 drives from the Vacon 100 HVAC IP54 range with ratings from 1.1 to 132 kW.

These drives have integral support for the BACnet IP communication protocol as standard. They do not use electrolytic capacitors, which are now classed as hazardous waste in the EU. Instead they use inherently reliable thin-film capacitors. All recyclable parts are appropriately marked for efficient recycling when the drives are ultimately taken out of service.
