E.ON and North Tyneside Council embark on major solar PV scheme

E.ON, solar PV, renewable energy

North Tyneside Council and E.ON have embarked on a joint project to fit solar panels to around 3000 council homes and 100 public buildings. Tenants’ fuel bills will be reduced by £70 to £120 a year. The council will use the income it receives through the initiative to set up a green fund to offer energy-efficiency improvements to the borough’s other council tenants.

The council has appointed E.ON to provide, install and maintain solar panels for 25 years at no cost to the local authority. E.ON’s cost will be covered by Government reward payments for renewable energy over 25 years.

The Feed-in Tariff is only available to installers until 31 March 2012, so only a limited amount of time is available. Installation work will be carried out on E.ON’s behalf by Kier North Tyneside.
