System Hygienics tackles underground car park ventilation system

The challenge of cleaning the ventilation ductwork in the subterranean car park at Hinxton Hall in Cambridge was successfully tackled by System Hygienics using the Jetvent system.

System Hygienics’ Jetvent system has been used to good effect to clean 800 m of ductwork serving the subterranean car park at Hinxton Hall in Cambridgeshire. Norland Managed Services, contractor for Hinxton Hall Ltd, which is part of the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus in Cambridgeshire, contacted System Hygienics to subcontract the ventilation cleaning work in the car park.

Philip Harding, contract supervisor with Norland, explains that having worked with System Hygienics before, it was clear that the company could meet the requirements of the contract and carry out the work in a quick and efficient way with minimal disruption to the running of the car park. ‘With the Jetvent system, we had to give it a go and see if it really does what it says on the tin. We were not disappointed.’

The diesel-powered compressor used to clean the ductwork needs to be no more than 90 m from the job, but was too high to go underground. The solution was to wait until the car park was empty and close off a section of the entrance ramp for System Hygienics’ vehicles and equipment.

Paul Dalton, sales engineer with System Hygienics, says, ‘This meant we had to work around the people using the car park. The job took eight days to complete, working from around 6 p.m. until 2 a.m. each night. We averaged 100 m a day, so we covered about 800 m of ductwork in that time.’
