Air movement without noise transfer

Passivent, ventilation, natural ventilation, attenuation

A development from Passivent makes possible natural air movement in partitioned floor areas without noise transfer from one area to another. The Active SoundScoop Transfer unit delivers optimum efficiency in balancing natural ventilation with noise attenuation in closed-plan buildings.

Based on the core SoundScoop unit, the Active version offers three operating modes to allow for optimum energy efficiency as external temperatures vary through the year. Units operate predominantly in natural mode, with options to boost when temperatures rise in summer or recirculate air when temperatures drop in winter. They are fully automatic and monitor CO2 and/or indoor temperature. They can be integrated into Passivent’s iC8000 control system.

Transfer units are positioned at high level in partitions/walls to enable natural air movement. A patented sound-absorbing lining optimises attenuation of mid-frequency sound — typically speech and footfall. Laboratory testing has shown that an acoustic performance of up to Dnew44 can be realised.

Such performance means that the requirements of BB93 for schools can be met in a classroom next to a noisy corridor.

New procurement rules for NHS suppliers

New procurement rules mean NHS suppliers will need to demonstrate their green credentials so the NHS can achieve its target of becoming net zero for directly-controlled emissions by 2040, with an ambition to reach an 80% reduction in its carbon emissions between 2028 to 2032.
