Anaerobic digestion uses Rauvitherm pipework

Published:  01 April, 2015

Rehau, district heating, renewable energy

Gaunts Estate near Wimborne in Dorset is the site of three new district-heating schemes that are powered by three separate anaerobic digestion plants. Throughout the schemes, 1600 m of Rehau’s flexible, pre-insulated Rauvitherm pipework connects the anaerobic-digestion plants to the various farms, dwellings and countryside buildings on the estate.

The pipework was specified by Derek Moss from Gaunts Estate, who is overseeing the installation, and was chosen as part of a supply-and-install package from Rehau installer PES of Coventry.

The pipework has a closed-cell cross-linked PE foam to provide high insulating performance and a robust LLD-PE outer jacket bonded to it to withstand demanding on-site conditions and prevent water ingress.

Rauvitherm pipework is supplied in coils up to 300 m and has been installed in trenches from 0.5 to 1.5 m deep in runs of up to 200 m.

The main pipe runs are in 63 mm Rauvitherm Duo pipework, with 50, 40 and 32 mm sizes used for the separate distribution spurs.

One of the schemes, High Lea Farm, is being used as a demonstration project by Green Gas.
