Act II of the refurbishment of Liverpool’s Royal Court Theatre includes building-services designed by Steven Hunt & Associates. The building-services scheme was designed as a heavily phased operational refurbishment so that the theatre could remain open without any risk of outages in the auditorium.

The scheme includes a new power supply with new switchgear and replacement of the 1938 distribution panel, which has been made safe and retained for historic interest.

All lighting is based on LEDs, with some existing fittings retained and rewired. Lighting in the foyer and public space on the ground floor has been fitted with scene-setting controls for different occasions.

The mechanical installation has intelligent controls to monitor and adjust the heating and mechanical ventilation, with heat recovery for energy efficiency.
