The 18x7 m pool was enclosed by a Perspex structure but could not be used in the winter because of condensation building up in the roof and uncomfortably low temperatures.
Refurbishment work involved replacing the 40-year-old dome cover with an aluminium-framed polycarbonate pool enclosure from Arqualand and installing heating.
A Niche gas-fired LSD350 unit heater with an output of 103 kW was mounted externally. It delivers warm air via a louvred grille at a velocity to ensure even heat distribution.
