Multi-storey building design incorporates three wind turbines generators

This 147 m-high building forming part of the redevelopment of Elephant & Castle in London incorporates three large wind turbines as part of the structure.

Three wind turbines 9 m in diameter will be incorporated into a residential tower being built as part of the transformation of the Elephant & Castle in London. They will be integrated into the top of the structure of the 43-storey Castle House and contribute to energy costs for the 399 apartments being up to 40% below the UK housing average. Other low-energy design features include on-site CHP with community heating. Small-scale CHP will provide domestic hot water. Working with Castle House Developments, consulting engineers WSP devised the energy-reduction strategy. The turbines will be in cowlings designed to maximise wind velocities. Their performance will be enhanced by mounting them in wind concentrators. The turbines will provide enough electricity to light all the apartments.
