Golfers help keep air ambulance flying

The BTU Golfing Society, formed in 1926 by building-services engineers in London, has raised £1746 for the Thames Valley & Chiltern Air Ambulance. The money was raised by the Thames Valley BTU with an auction of gifts presented by members and guests, together with a raffle draw. Mike Nankivell (right), captain of Thames Valley BTU, presented the cheque to Stevie Horton (centre), head of fund raising, and paramedic Bob Towson. Mike Nankivell said, ‘We are delighted to have raised so much for the 999 helicopter. £1746 is a record for our charity event, and we are most grateful to Panasonic and Space Airconditioning for donating the raffle prizes of an LCD television and an i-Pod Nano and to all our members for their generous support.’ Stevie Horton explains, ‘We need to raise £1.2 million each and every year to keep the 999 helicopter operating seven days a week, and without the support of groups like the Thames Valley BTU Golfing Society, we would not achieve this.’
