Carrier helps bring new lifestyle to Derby

westfield
Contributing to the lifestyle and retail experience of Westfield in Derby is Carrier air-conditioning equipment with a cooling capacity of 2.5 MW.
Following the £340 million redevelopment of Westfield in Derby, integrated air-conditioning systems from Carrier are providing the cooling for the vast public circulation spaces, as well as ventilation for the food concept Eat Central. The systems include Aquasnap Puron R410A chillers and Airovision air-handling units. The six chillers have a combined cooling capacity of 2.5 MW and include factory-fitted hydronic packs. The nine Carrier AHUs have air throughputs from 10.5 to 14.2 m3/s and were factory tested to prove they deliver the duty. The design of the AHUs was complex, with gas heaters, cooling coils, run-around coils and recessed bulkheads to house pump packs and controls. The contract details included the provision of interconnecting chilled water and run-around pipework, which was installed by Arcade, an experienced local Carrier dealer. The whole installation was engineered to suit the on-site conditions and fit the space available. The system was sized to avoid the need for separate buffer tanks. Pumps were therefore sited within the chiller footprint and AHU bulkhead design. Westfield Derby has 100 000 m2 of retail, food and lifestyle space with over a hundred, local, regional and national stores. There are 3700 car-parking spaces. A 12-screen 6500 m2 Cinema de Lux, the first in the UK, is due to open early in 2008.
