Powering his way to a world-championship gold medal is Lochinvar-sponsored Paul Barnbrook.

Lochinvar has helped a British sportsman power his way to a world championship gold medal. The company sponsored Paul Barnbrook, 51, to attend the World Masters Powerlifting Championship in California, where he came top in the individual deadlift.

The BT engineer from Stourbridge lifted 290 kg in his category for competitors weighing 100 kg and aged 50-plus. He has already won a gold for the same event in the European championship, where he was also runner-up in the overall powerlifting competition.

He says, ‘It was a fabulous trip and a fabulous experience. I’m grateful to Lochinvar for helping me make the most of this chance of a lifetime. To come back with a medal was a big bonus.’

He was British junior champion in 1977 and has been involved in the sport since his teens.

David Pepper, managing director with Lochinvar, says, ‘We supply equipment to a variety of sports-related facilities. We believe in sponsorship, and we like to back sports that do not enjoy a high profile. We’re delighted by Paul’s success.’
