Air-source heat pumps add to green credentials of rehabilitation centre
Underfloor heating in a new 48-bed rehabilitation centre in Middlesbrough is served by a chain of five Ecodan air-source heat pumps from Mitsubishi electric. Each unit is rated at 14.5 kW, and they will meet 45% of the heat load. The centre is run by Riverside ECHG and provides self-contained flats and en-suite rooms for people with various supported-housing needs.
Andrew Williamson, project manager for Riverside, said, ‘Using these Ecodan units in this combination fits in well with our innovative approach for a sustainable building and helps us support our clients in a very energy-efficient and cost-effective way.’
The units were installed by Revolution Power, a specialist in renewable-energy supplies and installations. The company is an accredited installer under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme and a member of the Renewable Energy Association.
The installation will also the centre to qualify for payments under the Renewable Heat Incentive, which is due to be introduced in April 2011.
