Adding more control capability to Mitsubishi air conditioning
Mitsubishi Electric has added near-BMS capability to its M Series and Mr Slim air-conditioning ranges with the introduction of an I/O interface to make possible more intelligent central control. This interface offers two energy-saving modes that were previously only available with much more expensive control solutions.
‘Auto off’ sets the auto mode for a predetermined period of time before reverting to fan-only to save energy. The time can be set to two hours, one hour or half an hour, enabling air conditioning to be turned on at a set time of day and switch to fan-only mode at the preselected time. This function prevents air conditioning being left on all day, regardless of need. The other mode is the ‘set point’ at which the air conditioning starts cooling, say 23°C.
New outputs can interlock with third-party heating to ensure that heating and cooling equipment do not run at the same time.
Sebastien Desmottes, controls specialist with the company, says, ‘Carbon-reduction targets mean that companies must be able to demonstrate that they are controlling consumption. This new interface makes the straightforward control of individual sites much more affordable and will make the energy consumed by the air conditioning much more predictable.’
